Curated by Sarah Jo Marks and Dov Kelemer of DKE Toys, the Custom Yoka Show which debuted at last year’s DesignerCon featured an army of over 200 customs of adFunture’s 3” Yoka. Now the show is moving onto its next milestone – the first gallery exhibition which opens @ Black Maria this Thursday, February 18th (7 – 10:30 PM).

The Black Maria exhibition will feature pieces from the initial show, which can be viewed in the official flickr album, as well as roughly 35-40 new pieces including work from kaNO, Itokin Park, Scott Tolleson, Suckadelic, Uamou, and Kii Arens. It will also feature five addition Drachenloch Cavebear resin Yokas from Scott and Anne Willkowski of Wax Bean Studio as seen on the virtual flier image above.

Finally, a gourmet food truck is starting to be a requirement for happening art shows. So if like most of us you never remember to eat before you go to the show, you’re in luck – Bool BBQ will be parked out front for all you hungry art and toy collectors.

More than 40 artists have customized Mike Burnett's "Neighborwood" and brand-new "Average Joe Schmoe" wooden DIY figures for a traveling exhibit that will open Friday, November 6th in the Shoparooni Annex Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio. The exhibit will run from November 6th, 2009, until December 5th, 2009.

Artists include: Jeremiah Ketner, Chris Ryniak, Brian Morris, Ryan Bubnis, Johnny Yanok, Amanda Spayd, Steak Mountain, Brian Flynn (Super 7), Martin Ontiveros, Leo Espinosa, Gordon Tarpley, Le Merde, Chris Gliebe, Sean Mahan, Jason Limon, MAD, Hydro74, 64 Colors, Mark Nagata, Paul Escolar, Ken Keirns, Mr. Shane Jessup, and many more!!!

This is my Gwin Custom provided by the good folks at toybreak.com. This little guy is about an inch high, maybe. He's a little booger but much fun to paint.

And here's the Vinnie Custom I did for the show. He was the complete opposite of the Gwin. He's about 16" tall and oh I dunno, about 16' wide. He was great fun to paint. Looks like an Easter Egg.

I have to keep up on the blogging these days. What is my problem??? Well, since it's been a while I have a few things to share. Below is some artwork I did for Ben and the good people at 3D Retro(3DRetro.com)for the upcoming Winter VTN Show. If you haven't been to VTN you should make plans to check it out in December. I know, it's a few months away but I like to plan early :)

Here's a couple of fun reviews of my Tricycle Terror Toy. I am both suprised and humbled by all the good attention that TT has received these past few months. It's nice to see all the hard work paying off. If anyone reading this is on the fence about purchasing one I recommend you do it sooner than later. I'm down to about 150 pieces and 100 were just delivered to my distributor. On a side note, I have some other exciting news to share about the series. The production on the NEXT piece is currently underway!!!

I attended the VTN Show last Sunday. Yeah, it is a small show no doubt. But I actually had a great time meeting the Toy Break Crew, JulieB @ Pretty in Plastic, John K and many others. Speaking of John K, I feel very lucky that he took time to do a caricature of me. However, the end result is a little bittersweet. Compared to some of the other caricatures I feel maybe he was a little uninspired by my mug :(

So here's the final boxart for the Tricycle Terror. I'm pretty happy overall with how it turned out. Funny thing is, I think I spent more time on this design than I did with the both the Illustration and the turnaround drawings combined.

Also, I wanted to share some news about Kathy's pregnancy. Unfortunately, she has miscarried. This has been a huge shock to our lives and we are currently working on picking up the pieces from this experience. I'm so blessed to have Kathy as my wife and I know that the day will come when we'll have little one's in our lives.

Monday I received an e-mail from a fellow sculpting buddy congratulating me on the Heather spot in ToyFare magazine. After getting the e-mail I rushed to the local Borders to see if it was true. Sure as crap right there on page #40 of ToyFare magazine #116 is Heather Hartlace. And BIG!!! The photo is ginormous. I'm kinda floating right now because I know a ton of people see this magazine. It's basically a homeless guy and his rat friend who are just happy living with very little. Don't feel sorry for him though. He's a happy lil' chap.

Finally got off my butt. This one started off with me just fooling around in Photoshop. I wanted to play with shapes and composition without any real goals. I've also got some recent sketches that I may or may not post later. I get weird about showing stuff if it doesn't have color.

Watched The Departed last night for the first time. Man, that was a great movie.

Sorry for those of you who actually care :P I've been busy packing cuz me and the woman are getting ready to move! When just bought our first home in Whittier and both have been so fixated on what kinds of things we're going to do to it. It's been very hard for me to concentrate on art related things at the moment. However, I do plan on picking it up soon so stay tuned. I HOPE that's a cat in this first photo.
